What Are People Saying About Jesse?

“ I’d give [mental skills training] more credit than anything…The year before I kind of would have been down on myself or I probably would’ve come in the next day and not worked as hard. But that [mental skills work] kind of helped keep me even, not ride the highs too high or the lows too low.” “If it wasn't for him I think I'd still have gotten here, but I don't know if I'd be able to be as good as I am or have the ceiling that I can have without him helping me, I owe a lot to him.”
- Josh James

Last year, I didn’t progress as well as I should have. I took that into the offseason. I knew I had to step it up a lot. It was just confidence. He helped me get my mind right, helped me get confidence and helped me slow the game down. That has been big for me this year.

"Mental skills are part of the performance side. I’ve been around a couple of good mental-skills coaches. Jesse Michel, in Houston, is one. Something I appreciated is that he explained things in a way that didn’t lessen the value of the actual physical skills that are necessary. You can be a driver with strong mental skills, but if you have a flat tire, you’re going to have issues. The car needs to be ready to go. You work on that together.”
- Jeff Albert
New York Mets

"Jesse’s background is in training military forces and nobody has to be more ready and more focused than our military forces in combat. We’re excited that he’s going to bring a lot of the learnings from his education and his prior experience to the Astros and we hope that our players that want to benefit from mental skills training can do that through him.”
- Jeff Luhnow
Houston Astros GM 2011-2019

“Ever since I talked to him, things have completely changed. He was always saying, ‘Stay positive. If something’s not going right now, say it’ll happen the next pitch. I was putting too much pressure on myself instead of really having fun. The more pressure I put on myself, things didn’t go my way and it just got worse and worse. Just go out and have fun".
- Reggie Johnson
Professional Baseball Player
